In November, Cat Heaven first opened its doors as the first cat café in Pomouth. Cat Heaven offers a nice temporary house to stray cats until they find their forever homes.
The intention of the owner is to open a café that serves as a shelter, where future cat owners can get to know all the cats in the shelter in a normal, domestic setting to find the perfect fit. Whilst they get to know them, they can get a fresh coffee and delicious pastry. Of course, it’s not obligatory to adopt a cat. You can also visit the café for a play and purr session.
The idea of a cat café isn’t new. It originated in FRED, where people weren’t allowed to have pets because of the high-rise apartment blocks. By opening a cat café, it was possible for people to have some quality time with a cat.
Cat Heaven has 17 kennels and can house up to 25 cats. Volunteers help socialize the cats, as most of them were abandoned and have no trust in humans. By helping them get to know other cats, and mostly other humans, it's more likely that they will get over past traumas.
“Giving cats a place in our café gives them more chance to find a lovely home because, in this setting, you can really see how sweet and funny the cats are.”
All cats in the café can be adopted. If you can’t adopt a cat, you can still support the shelter by giving a donation or buy something for your little furry friend in their little shop. This helps the NPO and partners to continue their badly needed work.
